Challenging Journey

I created this one for this week's challenge over at Stamping 411. This card also evolved (see my last post... ).

This starts on a So Saffron base. On this one there is a layer of Wild Wasabi, embossed, of course. Under the bottom layer is a scalloped edge of Pink Pirouette. I put my turtle on Whisper White. That's on a layer of Rose Red, which is on a layer of Pink Pirouette. There is a loop of Rose Red Ribbon. Finally, in the lower corner there is the sentiment "happy mother's day" from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

This is the second card. Mostly the same in terms of color, but this one has the three colors layered and ripped on the bottom edge. There's also two lines scored along the top straight edge of the Wasabi. There is a Pink Pirouette ribbon. It has the same circle/layer piece as the first one, but this one has a sparkle brad. I used the jewelery tag punch and punched tags in all the colors of the card.

This one has the sentiment stamped on White and punched with the word window.

The Evolution of the Card.... can this be a new phrase I've coined?

I finally got into the studio and the birth of "The Evolution of the Card" took place. I was ready to pump out some mother's day cards. (In all actuality, that was where the idea was born but I can't show those yet.) I wanted to do about 4 of each card. I started with one card idea and color scheme. I made one, and then for the next one, the card evolved. It was a cool experience.

This one was the first. I started with a base of Rose Red. I scored some lines from the fold in the card to the edge of the card. Three lines down each side of the card. I used this stamp from the set. I started this one Whisper White. I colored him in with my stampin' write markers. I placed that on So Saffron. That was placed on Certainly Celery which was placed on Wild Wasabi. In the corner their is one brad (Old Olive, I believe). Finally, I tied a white grosgrain ribbon around the bottom. It's super cute, but walk with me as this card evolves...

This is the second life of this card. I switched the orientation of the card. I kept the scored lines down each side, but I also put them across the top and bottom of the stamped sentiment. I layered the same colors as above. I water colored this guy on watercolor paper. I layered them up and then roughed up the edges of the bottom layer. Next, I added a little loop of ribbon in Celery.

This is the next evolution. It is way off of what I started with! This was actually a sketch that Dawn Olchefske had a while ago. I used Wild Wasabi, Certainly Celery, So Saffron, and Pink Pirouette. I water colored my turtle this time, too, but this time he has pink dots on his shell! I used my embossing folders and picked different patterns to emboss each square.

This is the final evolution, which is very similar to the last one, but I used only Stampin' Up embossing folders.

I think I'll keep this up! It's cool to see the card keep changing. I will try and get these "Evolution of the Card" at least once a month.

Watercolor Lizard

I bought some acrylic stamps on clearance at my local craft store. I thought the images were cute, especially this little lizard. He is saying, "Age is only a number... Mine is unlisted." Too cute. Today, I stamped him on watercolor paper with staz-on. Then I water colored him using my aqua painter and Certainly Celery. I watercolored his dots in using Temping Turquoise. I put him on a Tempting Turquise base. Next there's a layer of Certainly Celery. Next, there's a layer of Wild Wasabi. I topped that with my image. My ribbon is also from the dollar bin at my local craft store. I am loving dots, and this ribbon is what helped me pick the colors for the card itself. Thanks, cute ribbon! It's simple, but it's fun, too. Inside is the simple message, "Happy Birthday!" Thanks for looking!

Berry Easter

I made this card especially for this week's challenge over on Stamping 411. I saw the sketch and thought, "Easter is right around the corner." Then I started thinking, "What set could I use for this sketch challenge?" Then I thought of the Berry Christmas set. I know... a Christmas set. Who'da thought it? But I have used the "wreath" before in mostly green with a few pops of red (for Christmas, of course), but I thought to do the "wreath" in multiple soft Easter type colors. And that's how this card was born.

I started with a Pear Pizazz base. I topped it with a layer of Pink Pirouette that I embossed with the petals-a-plenty embossing folder. The I sanded the top of the paper to help the flowers pop a bit. I colored the inside of the flowers with So Saffron. Next is a layer of So Saffron. On top of that is Whisper White with the wreath from Berry Christmas. I stamped the whole image with Pink Pirouette. The I took a cotton swab and cleaned off various circles and colored them back in in both the Saffron and the Pear. I stamped the sting and bow and Happy Easter sentiment (from Teeny Tiny Wishes) in Pear. I used stamping dimensionals to pop that up a bit. Then I added the Pear seam binding ribbon.

Did Someone Say Cake?

Here is another card that we are making at my next class. I started with a base of Cherry Cobbler, my favorite color. I used my jumbo scallop circle punch to punch a big flower right in the center of the front of the card. I used a scrap of basic black and punched then embossed a big flower. I fit it right in the inside of the punch out on the front of the card (which I layered in Whisper White). In the center of that, I stamped, then punched using 1 3/4" circle punch, the cake from Fun Fast Notes.

I also stamped then punched the sentiment from the Bring On the Cake stamp set. I used the large oval punch. I have had this set of flower brads for a while. You can't really tell in the picture, but it does sparkle. I layered a large oval of basic black under the "bring on the cake" sentiment.

I colored the layers of frosting and the word "cake" with Daffodil Delight.

Here's a view of the inside. Thanks for looking....

Gift Card Holder, a Gift In Itself

Here is one of the cards that we will be making at my next card class. It's a class where we are making 10 girl birthday cards. I was down to the last few cards and thought to myself, "I cannot use any more pink!" I was struggling over color choices. I decided on a Crumb Cake Base, Not Quite Navy, and Wild Wasabi. I used my Happy Birthday wheel in Not Quite Navy on the bottom. I used this new die cut trim piece in white. I used the cupcake set and punch for my cute cupcake, dotted with Wild Wasabi. I topped the cupcake with a glitter red cherry. I added these pearls, too. I think it glams it up a bit.

Here is the inside of this card. It has a little slot for the gift card to fit into and a space to sign the card. There is also a little circle, popped up with dimensionals from the birthday set in the mini occasions cattie.

I did get this idea from the great and talented Gretchen Baron.

Color me Pink

Here are a few more rainbow cards, this time in shades of pink. The colors are Pink Pirouette, Pretty-in-Pink, Regal Rose, and Rose Red. When I stamped them, I used the ink color that matched the paper. For this one, I used the same flower on each of the pinks. It's the flower from the Season of Friendship set. I used a pink ribbon that I bought in the dollar bin at my local craft story. I added a sentiment from Tiny Tags that I punched with the jewelery tag punch, and I punched a tag in each of the pinks.
This one I used several different flowers from several different sets. I really don't remember which sets (sorry!), but I do like how it looks. Again, I used a sentiment from Tiny Tags and included a jewelry tag in each color.

Green Rainbows?

Here are two different green rainbow cards that I made. I used the same colors on both: Certainly Celery, Wild Wasabi, Old Olive, and Garden Green. On this one, I used one set of the leaves from the Trendy Trees set on each color. I also used the same color ink as the paper. I added a green ribbon that I had and used the Tiny Tags message and the jewelry tag punch to punch out tags in three of the greens. I LOVE this look!
On this one, I used a different "tree top" from the Trendy Trees set on each color. I also used the sentiment from the set to give one of my male students a sympathy card after his mom passed away. (So super sad!)
